Mateo Barron Sr.

STERLING – Mateo Barron Sr., age 86, of Sterling, died Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Mateo was born on September 21, 1932, in Mexico, the son of Herberto and Ramona (Gonzalez) Barron. He served in the National Guard. Mateo worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire in Sterling for over 35 years. He attended St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling. He enjoyed gambling, traveling, cooking and coin collecting. He loved to work in the yard and tend to his flowers, and loved watching sports, especially the Chicago Bears and Cubs.

Survivors include his three daughters, Monica (Gary) Haverland of Sterling, Maria (Randy) Macheall of Riverside, CA and Angie (James) Lowe of Del Rio, TX; his two sons, Junior Barron of Sterling and Johnny Ray Barron of Sterling; nine grandchildren, Christopher Blum, Steven (Larissa) Blum, Elijah (Toni) Macheall, Ian Macheall, Jason Macheall, Tara Machaell, Kymber Carlton, Craig (Kathryn) Carlton and Mateo (Elizabeth) Barron III; fifteen great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Bow) Ekquist, Nathan (Baylee Gutierrez) Blum, Morgan (Robert) Evans, Nina Aldrich, Tyson Macheall, Dillon Macheall, Gracie Macheall, Aiden Macheall, Roman Macheall, Ethan Macheall, Owen Macheall, Tatum Macheall, Saylor Macheall, Morgan Macheall, and Lily Barron; two great-great-grandchildren, Oliver Blum and Sonny Evans; six sisters; three brothers; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Linda Ann Barron; and five siblings.

Cremation rites have been accorded with the McDonald Funeral Home and Crematory in Rock Falls. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at 1 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling.
