Carolyn A. Dunaway

STERLING – Carolyn A. Dunaway, age 87, of Sterling, died Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Rock River Hospice and Home.

Carolyn was born July 3, 1931 in Bellaire, Ohio the daughter of Howell and Leona (Behres) Turner. She graduated from St. Mary High School in Lancaster, Ohio in 1949 and served in the US Air Force. Carolyn married John Dunaway on November 23, 1957 in Lancaster, Ohio.  He preceded her in death on May 12, 2018. She was employed with the JC Penney Catalog and enjoyed bowling, square dancing, camping, canoeing, traveling and swimming. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling, was a former room mother and helped with Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include three sons, David (Doughton Lawrence) Dunaway of Chicago, Richard (Debra) Dunaway of Morrison and William (Dana) Dunaway of Parkville, Mo.; two daughters, Cathy Dunaway of Madison, Wis. and Diana (Robert) Hanson of Oregon; seven grandchildren, Zachary Dunaway, Nicholas and Adam Gallardo, and Grant, Kyle, Natalie and Mallory Dunaway; two step granddaughters, Ally Milnes and Katie (Sean) Hassett; two step grandsons, Tom (Sandy) Hanson and Mike Hanson; and one great granddaughter, Jaycee Dunaway.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one daughter, Margaret Dunaway; one granddaughter, Madelin Dunaway; one brother, Edwin Turner; and one sister, Jane Turner.

Visitation will be Friday, January 25, 2019 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the McDonald Funeral Home, 505 First Avenue in Sterling. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Reverend Bruce Ludeke officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Rock River Hospice and Home.
