Addison woman charged with assaulting police officers

Bond was set at $50,000 Jan. 28 for an Addison woman charged with assaulting three Addison police officers while armed with two knives, according to a DuPage County State's Attorney's Office news release.

April Hachmeister, 51, of the 200 block of North Mill Road, was charged with three counts of aggravated assault to a police officer, a Class 4 Felony. Additionally, she has been charged with misdemeanor counts of domestic Battery and criminal damage to property, the release stated.

On Jan. 17 at approximately 4:25 a.m., Addison Police responded to a 9-1-1 call made from a man at the Mill Street address in response to a domestic disturbance.

Prior to their arrival, Hachmeister grabbed the man’s face, gouged his eyes and threatened him at knife point. Hachmeister stabbed items inside the apartment including a coffee maker and television, according to the report.

Upon their arrival, officers were met by Hachmeister, who was armed with two knives.Officers ordered Hachmeister to drop the weapons and that Hachmeister ignored the officers’ commands, the report stated.

Hachmeister approached the officers while holding the knives, and one of the officers discharged his weapon, striking Hachmeister. Hachmeister was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment, according to the report.

She was released from the hospital Jan. 26 and transported to the DuPage County Jail. The incident is currently being investigated by the Major Crimes Task Force.

“I would like to thank the Addison Police Department for their quick response to the domestic disturbance call,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said. “Thanks to their efforts, a possible tragedy may have been averted.”

“I would like to commend the members of the Major Crimes Task Force for their work on this very unfortunate incident,” Addison Director of Police Chief Bill Hayden said. “These dedicated men and women represent the epitome of professionalism every day in very difficult circumstances and for that I thank them.”

Hachmeister’s next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 19 for arraignment.
