Why Hafner was selected: The Joliet Catholic Academy senior dance competitor joined her senior co-captain Abi Voss to lead the Angels to the IHSA Class 1A Competitive Dance championship in Bloomington. JCA beat Morris 95.68-95.08 to win its first title in the sport.
Herald-News sports writer Curt Herron talked with Hafner.
Herron: What do you like the most about competitive dance?
Hafner: There's something that's very special since I feel like I can express myself and show athleticism at the same time, which you don't get with a lot of sports.
Herron: What do you like most about this year's team?
Hafner: It's never just about yourself because everyone holds everyone accountable.
Herron: What do you like most about competing for JCA?
Hafner: At JCA, I've learned how to be a team player and that's given me a life lesson that I'll never forget.
Herron: What would you like to do in the future?
Hafner: I want to go into pre-medicine and keep dancing.
Herron: Who's your favorite sports team and athlete?
Hafner: The Chicago Cubs and dance-wise, it's Ohio State's dance team. I like Tom Brady.
Herron: Do you have any pets?
Hafner: I have a Boxer and her name is Zoey.
Herron: What's your favorite type of music and artist?
Hafner: I really like 1980's music. And Ariana Grande.
Herron: Who's someone that you would like to meet?
Hafner: Leonardo DiCaprio.
Herron: What's your favorite type of food and restaurant?
Hafner: I really like a burrito from Chipotle.
Herron: What's your favorite TV show and movie?
Hafner: That '70s Show. And 'The Breakfast Club'.
Herron: What do like to do in your free time?
Hafner: I like to dance more and also watch Netflix.
Herron: Where's the most interesting place you've been and where would you like to visit?
Hafner: Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic. And Greece.
