RIVERSIDE - A Justice man returning from a pre-Super Bowl party was charged Feb. 3 with driving under the influence of alcohol after a passenger in his car called Riverside police and said she "was scared for her life," according to a Riverside Police news release.
Michal Scislowicz, 31, of the 7900 block of South 83rd Avenue, also was charged with speeding, illegal lane usage and numerous other traffic violations, the release stated.
Police received a 911 call at about 4 p.m. reporting that a driver of a 2008 Mazda was driving recklessly southbound in the 2800 block of Harlem Avenue from Longcommon Road.
The female passenger said she did not feel safe because the driver was intoxicated and driving all over the roadway. When she told him to pull over, he refused to do so, according to the release.
Riverside police spotted the car driving in marked parking spaces in the 3700 block of Harlem Avenue. The car continued to drive recklessly until reaching the XSport Fitness parking lot in the 3900 block of Harlem Avenue, according to the release.
Scislowicz told police that he was on his way home from a pre-Super Bowl party. He said he stopped in the XSport Fitness parking lot because he was a member of the health club and wanted to use the bathroom.
Scislowicz had a June 2015 DUI arrest, but at the time of the Riverside arrest, his driver's license was valid, the release stated.
Scislowicz had obvious signs of intoxication, which included an odor of alcohol on his breath, red bloodshot and glassy eyes. He was unsteady and swaying from side to side while talking with the arresting officer, according to the release.
Police interviewed the passenger, an Oak Lawn resident, who said she called 911 because Scislowicz had been drinking heavily at the party. He refused to pull over after he ran several red lights and was speeding excessively on Harlem Avenue before reaching Riverside, according to the release.
