Roundup: Antonio Peray leads four Reapers' wrestlers to sectionals

WRESTLING

Plano: The Reapers qualified four wrestlers for sectionals at the Class 2A Rochelle Regional on Saturday, led by 220-pound runner-up Antonio Peray.

Peray took second place at 220 pounds, pinning Sycamore's Logan Egler in 4:38 before losing to Burlington Central's Josue Ferro in the final.

Cain Hernandez at 113 pounds took fourth place and lost to Sycamore's Samuel Sprinkle in the third-place match. At 132 pounds, Plano's Jorge Aguilar took fourth place, beating Freeport's KK Collier in a 13-10 decision, losing to Sycamore's Nicholas Lockhart, pinning Plano's Abe Sanni in 1:48 and losing to Rochelle's Keegan Davis by a 10-4 decision in the third-place match.

Plano's Connor Kensel took third at 152 pounds, pinning Sycamore's Maxxim Mathey in 1:57, losing to Rockford Boylan's Austin Abitua, pinning Marengo's Aaron Shepard and winning a 4-3 decision over Rochelle's Jacob Fore in the third-place match.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Plano: Lily Fernandez scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Lexi Tisberger had 10 rebounds for the Reapers (18-10) in a 40-30 loss to Rosary on Monday. Maddie Jude added six points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Kyla Waller had 19 points and seven rebounds, and Tisberger had seven points and 11 boards for Plano in a 49-33 win over Somonauk on Saturday. Fernandez added 10 points and three steals.

Fernandez had 14 points, seven rebounds and three steals, and Waller had 11 points, five rebounds and four steals for the Reapers in a 43-41 loss to Peotone on Feb. 1. Jude added eight points and four steals and Rachel Martinez added eight rebounds and three assists.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Newark: Brett Myre had 20 points, hit five 3-pointers, grabbed seven rebounds and had five assists to lead the Norsemen past Indian Creek 55-44 in Saturday's championship game of the 100th Little Ten Conference Tournament. Corey Jacobson added 10 points and Jacob Slivka scored nine for Newark (20-4), which won its fifth straight conference championship.
