Rockets roll past Pretzels on the road

Rock Falls jumped out to a big lead early on, and outscored Freeport in every quarter for a 68-47 nonconference road win on Saturday night.

Cade Nailor led the way with 19 points, and Dylan Leaf and Keyon Wolber each scored 16 for Rock Falls, which led 13-2 after the first quarter and never looked back. Jared Rasmussen added 12 points, and he and Nailor each hit three 3-pointers.

Byron 66, Newman 56: The Comets were outscored 15-2 in the fourth quarter of a loss at the Aquin Shootout in Freeport.

Devon House led all scorers with 28 points, and Marcus Williams added 15 for Newman, which led 54-51 after the teams were tied at 34 at halftime.

Oregon 72, Fulton 69: The Hawks picked up a win over the Steamers at the Aquin Shootout, as Trey Woolsey poured in 36 points for Oregon.

Bureau Valley 56, Erie-Prophetstown 31: The Storm led 15-9 after one quarter and 32-17 by halftime, and the Panthers never recovered in a Three Rivers East game at the Storm Cellar in Manlius.

Kale Barnett’s 15 points led a balanced BV attack, with Noah Simon scoring 13 and Nate Paup adding 12. Barnett also had five steals and three assists, while Paup grabbed seven rebounds, and Simon pulled down five boards.

Eric Robinson led EP with 10 points and three assists, while Josh Hammer scored nine points. Clayton Johnson grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Sherrard 66, Morrison 39: The Mustangs fell behind 23-11 after one quarter and trailed 46-25 by halftime in a Three Rivers West road loss.

Nick Allen and Nathan Mickley scored 10 points apiece for Morrison, as nine different Miustangs scored in the game.

Polo 70, Milledgeville 61: The Marcos got 21 points from Braiden Soltow and 20 from Brady Webb in an NUIC win at home, while the Missiles got 32 points from Treyton Selman in the loss.

Polo led 15-12 after one quarter, 34-28 at halftime, and 52-51 after three before outscoring the Missiles 18-10 in the final 8 minutes.

Nate Rahn added 11 points for Milledgeville. Justin Young scored 11 for Polo.

AFC 57, Amboy 48: The Raiders topped their NUIC rivals at home with 11 points from Jesus Aguilar, 10 from Sawyer Murphy, and nine each from Luke Warner and Calvin Jahn.

Mitchell McLaughlin scored 15 points, and Hunter Zimmerly added 10 for Amboy.

AFC jumped out to an 18-11 lead after one quarter, and led 36-28 at halftime and 46-40 after three quarters.

The Raiders took five charges in the game, with Warner and Malachi Ball-Alexander each taking two, and Murphy stepping in to take one.

Eastland 54, New Berlin 35: The Cougars held New Berlin to 10 points in the second half to pull out a win at the Riverton Shootout.

Lane Christians scored six points and Kaden Henze added five during a 17-point third quarter as Eastland turned a 25-19 halftime deficit into a 36-28 lead after three quarters.

Henze and Brock Coatney finished with 13 points in the game. Christians added 10.

Faith 5th at NICC: The Falcons bounced back from a 60-34 loss to Fulton Unity in the first round to defeat Quad Cities Christian in the fifth-place game at the NICC Tournament in Galesburg.

Against QCC, Faith Christian used a 13-7 third-quarter surge to take the lead for good. Levi Schuler hit four 3-pointers and scored 19 points to go with three steals and two blocks, while Collin Kibble added 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Louis Throw finished with 12 points, 13 rebounds and four steals, Collin Fassler had seven points and eight rebounds, and Evan Fassler chipped in six points and five boards.

In the opener, the Falcons fell behind 25-16 by halftime, then were outscored 35-18 after the break. Collin Fassler and Levi Schuler scored 11 points apiece, with Fassler grabbing five rebounds and Schuler adding four steals and two blocks. Titus Meeks added seven points.

Men’s basketball

Carl Sandburg 62, Sauk Valley 59: The Skyhawks dropped a tight Arrowhead Conference contest at home, just their second loss in the last 10 games.

Trevon Adams finished with 15 points, six rebounds and six assists for Sauk (15-8), while Fred Brown added eight points, eight rebounds and three assists. Markel Hudson scored 11 points, Jyaire Robinson had nine, and Nolan Govig chipped in seven points, six rebounds and three assists.
