WHEATON - A Streamwood man Feb. 11 was charged with indecent solicitation of a child--aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to a Wheaton Police Department news release.
Muhammad Shoaib, 27, of the 900 block of Mulberry Lane, was arrested at 8 p.m. in the 300 block of North Gary Avenue, Wheaton, after police received a report from a Wheaton parent regarding inappropriate social media communication between their child and an unknown adult, according to the release.
The parent oversees their child's social media accounts and notified the police when the inappropriate communication was discovered.
The Wheaton Police Department's investigations division worked with the parent, which led to the arrest of Muhammad Shoaib, who is being held at the DuPage County Jail on a $75,000 bond, the release stated.
"The proactive parenting and cooperation of our resident with the police department helped identify and arrest a potential child sex predator," Wheaton Deputy Police Chief Youker said in the release.
Wheaton Police would like to remind parents of the importance of internet safety and monitoring their children's communications. Special attention should be paid to covert communication and dating apps on children's smart phones and computers.
