Police: Lisle man speeds while drunk, rolls sedan, claims it was carjacking

SYCAMORE – A Lisle man could be charged with filing a false report after police said he rolled his car and claimed it had been car-jacked.

William C. Whitford, 25, of the
2700 block of Sunvally Road, has already been charged with two counts of driving under the influence, driving while license revoked and improper lane use, and according to a release from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, a charge of filing a false police report is pending.

The release said witnesses saw Whitford speeding about 5 p.m. Thursday in a 2018 Chevrolet sedan on University Road north of Keslinger Road in Malta, and that he passed two vehicles before he crashed into a farm field on the east side of the road.

Whitford told the witnesses, who tried to help him and saw him crawling out of the overturned car, that it had been carjacked, but they say he was the only occupant, according to the release.

Deputies said evidence at the scene corroborated that he was the only person in the car, and that he wasn’t wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, the release said.

According to the release, Whitford was taken to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital and treated for injuries, but Northwestern Medicine, media relations specialist Kim Waterman said he was not in the hospital at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

He'd been given a recognizance bond to go to the hospital, and jail staff said he hadn't been booked as of
9:30 a.m. Friday.

Whitford was not in bond call Friday afternoon, indicating he’s free on his signature. He doesn’t appear in online county court records, so it’s unclear when he’s due in court.
