A McHenry County Sheriff's deputy was cited Sunday after a crash near Genoa sent a Woodstock woman to the hospital, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office.
The two-car crash happened about 9:35 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Melms Road and Route 23 near Genoa.
McHenry County Sheriff's Deputy Kyle Mandernack was driving a sheriff's office truck west on Melms Road. He was stopped at a stop sign at the road's intersection with Route 23. The second vehicle involved in the crash – a Toyota Matrix driven by a 19-year-old Woodstock woman – was heading south on Route 23, and no stop is required at that intersection, police said.
Mandernack started crossing the intersection before the Toyota had passed, and the car hit his truck, police said.
Mandernack was cited with failing to yield at a stopped intersection. The woman was taken to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, and Mandernack was treated for injuries and released at the scene, police said.
