Athlete of the Week: Daniel Jezik

Daniel Jezik, Coal City, Junior, Wrestling

Why Jezik was selected: One week after the Coal City junior wrestler won his first state championship at 182 in Class 2A and his third medal overall, he wrapped up a 28-0 season by helping the Coalers to claim a second-place finish at the dual team finals in Bloomington.

Herald-News sports writer Curt Herron talked with Jezik.

Herron: What do you like the most about wrestling?

Jezik: Probably the individual aspect since you can't blame it on anyone else, since either you lose or you win.

Herron: What do you the like most about this year's team?

Jezik: Having fun wherever we went, even when it was serious. The team and coaches always were having fun, so it was a great time.

Herron: What do you like the most about competing for Coal City?

Jezik: It's been great every single year since we represent our school well. And how we act shows characteristics about our team, whether we win or lose.

Herron: What do you want to do in the future?

Jezik: I'm definitely going to attend a four-year university and probably try to play sports in college.

Herron: What do you like to do in your free time?

Jezik: I'm always doing something sporting-wise.

Herron: What's your favorite sports team and who's your favorite athlete?

Jezik: The Chicago Bears and Walter Payton.

Jezik: Tom Brady.

Jezik: Chicken and steak. And Subway.

Herron: What's your favorite TV show?

Jezik: 'Criminal Minds'.

Herron: What's your favorite type of music and artist?

Jezik: I like any type of music. Eminem.

Herron: Do you have any pets?

Jezik: I have a Labrador whose name is Vador.

Herron: Where's the most interesting place you've been and also you would like to visit?

Jezik: I went on a Lake Erie fishing trip. Somewhere in Asia.
