Bond set at $25K for man accused of repeatedly beating woman

SYCAMORE – A DeKalb man accused of beating a woman three times was being held Thursday in the DeKalb County Jail on $25,000 bond.

Shaquille P. Prince, 23, of the 400 block of Haish Boulevard, has been charged with aggravated domestic battery and domestic battery. If convicted of aggravated domestic battery, he could face three to seven years in prison, followed by four years of probation.

Police said in court records that Prince pushed the woman Jan. 25 resulting in injuries that required seven stitches, and that he took her phone away when she tried calling police.

The records show he also hit her in the back of the head with a glass bottle Feb. 11, and that Feb. 13, he punched her, giving her a black eye.

Prince said he’s a junior at University of Illinois-Chicago, and that he’s a personal trainer who needs to keep working.

DeKalb County Judge Philip Montgomery said Prince has additional charges out of Will and DuPage counties. Prince said that although he’s represented by public defenders elsewhere, he wanted to hire a lawyer in DeKalb County.

“I take this case more seriously, and I’d like to get it settled soon,” he said.

He’s due in court at 9 a.m. March 22.
