Why are you seeking election as mayor?
As an Eagle Scout/Scoutmaster, service to others is in my blood. I have the leadership skills necessary to continue moving our city forward. I’d like to continue using those skills to improve the lives of Yorkville residents.
What sets you apart from the other candidates?
Before I became Mayor, our city was worse than broke. With me at the helm, I guarantee our city will never be in that situation again. I have demonstrated the leadership ability to bring our city back from the brink to a strong financial position with the best bond rating we have ever had, roads getting done, police officers added, city property taxes reduced and businesses opening. If elected, what would be your top priority?
My top priorities have always been finances, infrastructure, public safety and economic development. Those will continue to be my top priorities.
Do you support the current city council’s handling of economic development and business growth? Please explain.
Yes. Since the recession, we have spent countless hours creating favorable conditions to attract businesses and expand our tax base. That effort has paid off in the amount of quality residential, commercial and industrial development we have had in the last few years. 2019 is off to a strong start and looks to be a great year for economic development. Is there fat in the city’s budget? If so, what programs or positions would you work to eliminate?
Our city operates very lean. By cutting fat and creating efficiencies, we are currently operating with 75 full-time employees. Before I became Mayor, the city had 96 employees with 2,000 less residents.
What, if anything, can the city do to have the Illinois Department of Transportation expedite the rebuilding and widening of Rt. 47 from Kennedy Road north to Sugar Grove?
We are in continual contact with IDOT and our elected officials. They are all very aware of the importance of the project. Phase I engineering is nearing completion. Construction is slated between 2020-2024. IDOT is trying to improve that schedule.
Would you propose any new services or programs for city residents?
We don’t create programs/services for the sake of it. If we see a need, we will look at it and determine the best way to meet that need. Our Parks and Rec Department is always looking to improve and add events that bring the community together to keep our small-town charm.
