Why Spencer was selected: The Celtics junior track and field athlete set school and meet records with a 13' 1.25" effort in the pole vault to win the title at the Rolling Meadows Windy City Pole Vault Summit. She is currently ranked first in Illinois and ninth in the nation.
Herald-News sports writer Curt Herron talked with Spencer.
Herron: What do you like most about competing in the pole vault?
Spencer: I have so much adrenaline in it and that's really exciting.
Herron: What do you the like most about this year's team?
Spencer: I feel like we're all just really supportive of each other and everything that we do and that's really all that you can ask from your teammates.
Herron: What do you like the most about competing for Providence Catholic?
Spencer: Everyone always has your back and is supporting each other.
Herron: What do you want to do in the future?
Spencer: I'm really looking forward to compete in college in track and field.
Herron: What do you like to do in your free time?
Spencer: Another thing that I like to do is play volleyball and also hanging out with friends.
Herron: What's your favorite sports team and who's your favorite athlete?
Spencer: The White Sox. And Michael Jordan.
Herron: What's your favorite type of food and place to eat?
Spencer: Chicken Alfredo pasta. Mago Grill & Cantina in Bolingbrook.
Herron: What's your favorite TV show?
Spencer: 'One Tree Hill'.
Herron: What's your favorite type of music and artist?
Spencer: I listen to everything, but probably pop and country the most. And Dan + Shay.
Herron: Do you have any pets?
Spencer: I have a black Lab named Gracie and a yellow Lab named Bailey.
Herron: Where's the most interesting place you've been and also you would like to visit?
Spencer: Rivieria Maya in Mexico. And I'd like to visit some of the countries in Europe.
