Yard waste pick-up resumes in Joliet on Monday

It may be a sign of spring around the corner.

Waste haulers in Joliet on Monday will resume picking up tree branches and other yard waste for the first time since December.

The city issued a news release with rules for yard waste pickup:

• Put it at the curb or alley by 7 a.m. on regularly scheduled waste pickup days;

• Use 32-gallon trash containers with “Yard Waste Only” stickers on them or 30-gallon Kraft paper bags with no stickers necessary;

• Brush and branches can be tied up if the bundles do not exceed four feet in length or 50 pounds in weight, and no piece in the bundle can exceed three inches in diameter;

• Do not mix other waste with yard waste.

The “Yard Waste Only” stickers are available for free at the information desk at City Hall, 150 W. Jefferson St., and at the three Jewel-Osco stores at 1401 W. Jefferson St., 1537 N. Larkin Ave. and 2480 Route 59.

The city noted that yard waste will not be collected if it is in trash containers larger than 32 gallons.

Yard waste pickup will continue until December.
