Local roundup: NIU senior Voigt second team all-MAC

Daily Chronicle

Northern Illiois women’s basketball senior Mikayla Voigt was the only Huskie on the all-Mid-American Conference team, which was released Tuesday.

Voigt finished the regular season fourth in the MAC at 19.6 points a game. The guard shot 38.3 percent on 3-point attempts (fourth in MAC), made 95 3-pointers (second in MAC) and made 81.3 percent of her free throws (fourth in the conference).

Voigt set a MAC record when she sank 11 3-pointers and scored 52 points in a Dec. 8 win over Western Illinois. She scored at least 20 points in 14 games and at least 30 points four times this season.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Frenz co-pitcher of the week: NIU senior Alex Frenz tossed a five-inning perfect game in a win over Idaho State and allowed four runs (two earned) over 11 innings against Idaho State and Washington at the Husky Classic last weekend.

The performance helped Frenz to earn MAC co-pitcher of the week, alongside Ball State’s Sarah Venker.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Lasiewicz pitcher of the week: NIU's Michael Lasiewicz struck out 10 batters, allowed three hits and two runs in six innings of work in a 17-2 win Saturday at Southern Illinois.

Lasiewicz earned MAC pitcher of the week honors for the third time in his career.

Tuesday, the NIU baseball team fell at Kansas State, 9-6.

The Huskes (3-12) at one point held a 6-0 lead, but the Wildcats pulled within a run in the third inning, tied the game in the seventh and went ahead with three runs in the eighth.
