Yard waste collection to resume April 1 for DeKalb residents; mirror waste pickup schedule

Collection times will follow normal waste pickup schedules for residents

DeKALB – Spring is in the air, and with the warmer temperatures and budding trees, residents will once again be able to have their yard waste collected.

According to a press release from the city, Lakeshore Recycling Systems will resume yard waste collection beginning April 1. Collection times will be the same time as regular pickup schedules.

Yard waste eligible for collection includes garden trimmings, branches and brushes, leaves, garden plants, vines, weeds and grass clippings.

Residents should place all yard waste they want collected into biodegradable landscape waste bags, or open garbage cans clearly marked with “YW” or “X,” the release states. Bags should not be heavier than 32 gallons or 50 pounds, and waste should not be placed in plastic bags or boxes.

Brush should be cut to 4-foot lengths and bundled with string or baler’s twine, not wire or plastic rope, according to the release. Bundles should weigh no more than 50 pounds. Tree branches and brush should not exceed 2 inches in diameter.

Lakeshore Recycling also offers yard waste carts for an additional monthly fee, which can be requested at 815-770-7550.

Anyone with further questions should call the city’s Public Works Operations Division at 608-748-2040.
