DIXON – George Robert St. James, 89, of Dixon, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family.
He worked as a millwright for Northwestern Steel and Wire for 33 years, retiring in 1997.
Mr. St. James was born March 23, 1929, in Sparta, the son of Willie and Fatima (Perry) St. James. He married Shirlie Spotts on November 6, 1970, in Peoria. She preceded him in death on October 6, 2004. George also worked for Daniel Brothers Garage.
Survivors include his three sons, Steven (Wanda) Walker, Dwain (Vickie) Hereford, and David (Thelma) St, James; six daughters, Beverly (Leonard) McDonald, Kitty (Damian) Considine, Alexcia St. James, Joann Reynolds St. James, Roberta Sue Walker, and Marie Smith; one brother, Donald (Theresa) St. James; one sister, Patricia Lenoir; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by one son, George Robert St. James; two daughters, Terry Lynn St. James and Rebecca Hereford; one brother in infancy, Theodore St. James; and one sister, Alberta St. James.
Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Costic officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Serenity Hospice, Oregon.
