M Supper Club in Crystal Lake has closed.
The Wisconsin-style supper club with contemporary characteristics opened in spring 2017 at 394 W. Virginia St.
A sign posted on the doors of the building reads, “Sorry we are closed, reopening soon.” The company’s Facebook page was removed.
"The city was sad to see that M Supper Club had closed over the weekend, but we are happy to learn that there is another individual who is going to be moving forward and opening a new restaurant at that location," said Heather Maieritsch, the city's economic development manager.
"... We're looking forward to the new restaurant concept that will be opening up this late spring [or] early summer."
Maieritsch said M Supper Club closed March 16, and she did not know why it closed.
When it opened in 2017, the restaurant was owned by Dave Perlick, George Kanellos, Jim Kanellos, Dennis Koukounaras and Niko Kanakaris. It moved into the site that formerly housed London Pub & Grill. M Supper Club was billed as offering "Midwestern comfort with a touch of class."
Perlick, Jim Kanellos, Koukounaras and Kanakaris could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon.
Maieritsch said the building is in great shape and at a key location.
“The restaurant is beautiful. It has outdoor space; the inside has been recently renovated,” she said. “It’s gorgeous inside. It has rustic wood all over. It has a lot of different seating areas. It’s a great place to hang out and have a drink.”
Perlick, the executive chef at Montarra Grill in Algonquin, told the Northwest Herald in 2017 why the restaurant was named M Supper Club.
“The ‘M’ is short for Montarra because we’re trying to bring our success of the Algonquin restaurant over to Crystal Lake,” Perlick said. “We’ve had a lot of success with Montarra Grill over the years, and have such a talented team here, so we came to the conclusion it was time to grow.”
The menu included pecan-crusted walleye, bourbon-glazed wild salmon, Parmesan-crusted filet mignon and whipped vanilla bean cheesecake.
