NIU will lose one of its upperclassmen forwards as senior Jaylen Key confirmed with the Daily Chronicle that he will be a grad transfer.
According to Key, he “just made a decision that I thought was best for me.”
Key, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will finish his undergraduate degree in corporate communications at NIU and told the Daily Chronicle that the decision “does not have anything to do with with being closer to home.”
NIU athletic communications told the Daily Chronicle that coach Mark Montgomery would not comment about transfers.
The 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward will have one year of eligibility remaining. His minutes went down this past season, as Key went from starting 25 games a sophomore to suffering an injury that required shoulder surgery and caused him to miss what would have been his junior season.
Key came off the bench and averaged about nine minutes a game after the beginning of conference play and less than eight minutes per game over the Huskies’ final five games.
This past season, Key posted a statline of 3.6 points and 1.9 rebounds a game.
