Woodstock Sport Clips to host fundraiser for family of stylist who died after crash

Sport Clips in Woodstock will donate one day's proceeds to the family of fellow stylist, Samantha Lazzerini, who died March 10 from injuries she suffered in a single-vehicle crash.

The crash occurred March 8 during Lazzerini's commute to work, according to a news release from Sport Clips.

The 28-year-old’s vehicle struck a pole that afternoon at the corner of Route 14 and Lake Avenue, police have said. She was seriously injured and required a Flight for Life helicopter transport.

“Flight for Life was called and she was airlifted to Condell Hospital in Libertyville, IL, as our other stylists watched and wondered why their co-worker was late and hoped she was just in backed-up traffic instead of the person they watched get extracted from the totaled vehicle and rushed over to the waiting helicopter,” Sport Clips area manager Katie Quebbeman said in the release.

Lazzerini’s injuries were extensive, and although she showed some signs of improvement, doctors told her family on March 10 that she had no brain activity and would not survive, according to the release.

Lazzerini was taken off life support machines that day. Her organs were donated through Gift of Hope, Quebbeman said.

To help ease the cost of medical and funeral expenses, the Sport Clips has organized a Cut-a-Thon to take place April 14 at the Woodstock Sport Clips, 11565 Route 14.

“Samantha’s parents are already receiving thousands of dollars in medical bills and funeral expense costs,” Quebbeman said. “Every bill they receive is a constant reminder of the tragic loss of their daughter.”

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Woodstock hair salon will charge $10 for every customer and donate 100 percent of the proceeds to Lazzerini’s family. Services include upgrades to Sport Clips’ Triple Play and MVP services. Upon checkout, clients will have the option to add an additional donation. Some stylists also have chosen to donate their pay or tips to Lazzerini’s family.

The business is seeking donations or raffle items to be used during the Cut-a-Thon.

A fundraising campaign on Gofundme.com had also raised $5,230 of its $100,000 goal Monday afternoon.
