Lexi Meyer, Foxes beat Geneseo in nine innings

SOFTBALL

Yorkville: Lexi Meyer’s single in the top of the ninth inning – and a misplay in the outfield – scored Calli Bishop with the winning run as Yorkville beat Geneseo 1-0 on Tuesdsay. Lauren Howard pitched a perfect bottom of the ninth, and struck out nine in a complete-game four-hitter. Jalyn Payne led the Foxes (16-2) with three of their seven hits.

Howard struck out eight and allowed just one hit for the Foxes in a 10-0, five-inning win over Plainfield North on Saturday. Lauren LaFollette went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Bishop drove in four runs for Yorkville, which put the game away with an eight-run fifth inning.

Howard allowed just three hits and struck out nine in Yorkville’s 3-1 win over Morris on April 11. Teaghen Amwoza went 2-for-3 with a triple, Amber Dasenbrock – just returned from injury – also went 2-for-3, as did Ellie Alvarez for the Foxes, who erased an early deficit with a three-run fourth.

Newark: Sophie Schomer struck out seven over six innings for the Norsemen in a 2-1 loss to Somonauk on Tuesday. Naomi Sweeney had two of the Norsemen’s six hits. Sweeney had three hits and Kjersten Friestad two RBIs for Newark in a 7-5 loss to Sandwich on Saturday.

The Norsemen won the other game of the doubleheader with Sandwich 8-5. Sweeney and Emily Schofield each had two RBIs and Skyler Chavoen had three hits.

Sweeney drove in six runs, Kaitlyn Hatteberg had three RBIs and Schofield and Chavoen both had two hits for Newark in a 15-3 win over LaMoille/Ohio on Friday. Friestad had four RBIs, Schofield two hits and three RBIs and Sweeney two hits and three RBIs in an 18-1 win over LaMoille/Ohio on April 11. Schomer struck out three and allowed one hit.

BASEBALL

Yorkville: Bryan Corrigan went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored, and the Foxes scored three runs in the sixth, but Crete-Monee came back with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Yorkville 7-6 on Saturday. Lukas Haddox and Josh Reifsteck both had a double and RBI.

Cole Yearsley’s two-run double in the sixth inning broke a 2-2 tie, and the Foxes went on to a 5-2 win over LaSalle-Peru on April 11. Evan May struck out two and scattered seven hits in the complete-game effort.

Newark: Corey Jacobson and Beau Brown each had two RBIs and two runs scored, Ian Oldenburg had two RBIs and a run and Jacobson threw four no-hit innings in a 16-0 win over LaMoille on Friday. Jacob Slivka struck out 10 in five innings and went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI in a 15-0 win over LaMoille on April 11.

GIRLS SOCCER

Yorkville: Hailey Wojcik had three saves in goal for the Foxes in a 3-0 loss to Kaneland on Tuesday.
