DIXON – John W. Kuster, age 88, of Dixon, died Friday, April 26, 2019, at Liberty Court in Dixon.
He was born February 14, 1931, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of John and Marie (Heid) Kuster.
John had worked for the Dixon National Bank for 28 years prior to his retirement. During his retirement, he had booths at numerous antique malls, most recently Show Place Antiques in Sterling, which was his home away from home.
John was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon, Past President of the Dixon Petunia Festival Board, and had served on the Dixon Theatre Renovation Board. He was Gene Autry’s No. 1 fan, and had many interests and hobbies, including steamboats, railroads, post cards, and amusement park memorabilia.
John was a Veteran of the Army, serving in France during the Korean War.
John married Loretta M. Janssen, February 12, 1958, at St. Paul’s Church in Burlington, Iowa. She preceded him in death December 30, 2004. He was also preceded in death by 1 great-grandson, Colton Kuster; 1 brother, Jim Kuster; and 1 sister, Mary Devore.
Survivors include his children Linda (Bill) Thompson of Geneseo, Brian (Lisa) Kuster, Diane (Tom) Langenfeld, Jeff Kuster, and Teresa (Curt Pitzer) Kuster all of Dixon; 10 grandchildren Angie (Eric) Schmidt, Patrick (Brittany Teerlinck) McGrail, Brandon (Cara) Langenfeld, Dustin (Lisa) Wakeley, Cody (Jenna) Kuster, Nathan (Amber) Kuster, Jamie Jeffries, Kristen (Aaron) Arbuckle, Paige Zinke, and Taz Kuster; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson.
John’s family would like to give a special thank you to the staffs at Liberty Court and Unity Hospice for their compassion and care.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, beginning with a 9:30 a.m. prayer service in the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Thomas Doyle, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 30, from 5 until 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
