Troy30-C students selected as MathCON finalists

Three Troy Middle School students and one William B. Orenic Intermediate School student advanced to MathCON finals on April 27 in Chicago.

They are sixth-grader Alexander Randolph, who received a national ranking of 119; eight-grader Josie Jarmuz, whose ranking was 135; eight-grader Nico Montes, whose ranking was 185; and seventh-grader Quinn Preis, whose ranking was 203.

The students will advance after excelling in the MathCON preliminary assessments earlier in the year.

MathCON is a national student math competition for students in grades five to 12. Its testing categories include number systems, word problems, absolute value equations, surface area and volume,exponential numbers, numeric patterns and percent equations.

MathCON’s goal is to engage students in STEM subjects outside of the classroom and encourage more students to enter STEM fields. Its logo is, “Stronger Math, Brighter Futures.”
