LAMOILLE — Three LaMoille High School freshmen competed in the Illinois State History Fair held on May 2 in Springfield.
The students start their projects as a research essay assignment in English I class, but then create a project for the fair, based on that research. Students then have the opportunity to submit their projects to the history fair.
This year, seven freshmen competed in the regional history fair held at NIU in March. Three of those seven earned first-place honors and advanced to the state competition. One of the advancing students, Ki’Ayana Moore, earned a first at state for her website related to Women’s Suffrage. Kiersten Shevokas and Leah Williams both earned second-place honors for their exhibits on Equality for ALL Minorities and The Influenza Outbreak of 1918, respectively.
Linda Whitmore, teacher of the class and sponsor of the activity, said she could not be prouder of the efforts of these three exemplary LaMoille students.
