SHABBONA – Like his classmates, Cade Bauer was excited and ready to celebrate Sunday as he marked his graduation from Indian Creek High School.

Bauer, of Waterman, was one of the 49 seniors who graduated Sunday at the Shabbona school’s 26th annual commencement.

“It’s been a great experience attending a small school in a small community,” Bauer said, “and I’m looking forward to what the future brings.”

In addition to the awarding of diplomas, the graduation ceremony featured addresses by valedictorians Adrian Jimenez and Raymond Ragan, and salutatorian Kayla McCormick.

The Indian Creek and Paw Paw high school bands and the Indian Creek High School choir, all directed by John Feken, performed during the ceremony.

During her address, McCormick mentioned what she calls the “Three T’s” that everyone has: time, talents and treasures.

“Our three T’s are our own; we can’t decide how others use theirs,” McCormick said. “Whatever you decide to be, be the best you can be and use your three T’s.”

After the graduation ceremony, Joe McRoberts of Shabbona waited outside with fresh flowers for his daughter Andrea. Joe McRoberts also graduated from Indian Creek High School and his mother graduated from the former Shabbona High School.

“It’s awesome to be together as a family on graduation day,” McRoberts said. “It’s almost like a family reunion with the whole community. I hope we can continue our family tradition when my son graduates from the high school, too.”

Indian Creek Principal Sarah Montgomery said she couldn’t be more proud of her students on their graduation day.

“All of our students passed the graduation requirements set forth by the high school and the state,” she said. “We are a tight-knit and welcoming community. Whether our graduating seniors stay close to home or go far away, go into business, agriculture, the military or become employed, we’re proud of them and are excited for their future.”
