Honoring those who served and died

SANDWICH – Memorial Day services were conducted by the Sandwich Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1486 and American Legion Post 181 starting at the Sandwich Veterans Park downtown near the gazebo and the Sandwich VFW Post on May 27 with the public attending.

Military services were then held at Oak Ridge Cemetery on Suydam Road, St. Paul’s Cemetery on West Sandwich Road, Pratt’s Oak Lawn Cemetery on Pratt Road, Pine Mound Cemetery on Roger’s Road, and VFW Post 1486 on South Main Street.

Members of the local VFW and American Legion Posts who passed away this past year, or the organizations were notified of their passing, were particularly honored. Those mentioned and honored individually at the services were: James R. Allen, O.E. Berg, Richard Bunge, Robert Guzman, William Haag, Raymond Kauffman, Richard L. Olson, William Oswald, Elmer Schumaker, Robert Geltrz, Judy Combs, Charles Allison, Leslie Sunnen and Myron Redden.
