A Joliet police officer was arrested on charges that he physically abused his ex-wife, according to court records.
About 4:30 p.m. Friday, William Busse, 36, of Homer Glen, was arrested in the parking lot of Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. He was charged with domestic battery, New Lenox Deputy Police Chief Louis Alessandrini said.
Busse is a Joliet police officer, according to a protective order filed against him by his ex-wife. Joliet city records show his salary is about $35,808.
The charges allege that on May 18, Busse struck his ex-wife on the head, grabbed her body and grabbed her hair. Alessandrini said she alleged Busse physically battered her at her home in New Lenox.
Will County Judge Fred Harvey signed a warrant for Busse’s arrest Friday that carried a $5,000 bond. Alessandrini said Busse was taken to the New Lenox Police Department after his arrest, and he was released after posting 10% of his bond.
Busse’s ex-wife filed for divorce Feb. 5, 2018, according to court records. A judge granted the divorce on June 18, 2019.
His ex-wife alleged in the protective order, filed May 24, that he hit her in the back of the head many times, put his hands on her throat and pulled her hair.
“I was begging him to stop,” she said.
Busse’s ex-wife said in the request for an order of protection that he “knows how to intimidate and manipulate” her.
