OHIO — William "Bill" Reuter, 80, of Ohio passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Heritage Health & Therapy & Senior Care. He worked for LTV Steel for 32 years prior to his retirement. However, his true passion was farming his family farm with his brother, Tom.
Bill was born June 9, 1938, in Amboy, the son of Paul and Ruth (Forman) Reuter. He married Carolyn Murray on Dec. 22, 1962, in Dixon.
Bill was a member of Red Oak Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army, during the same time as Elvis Presley. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, family and friends. Bill celebrated his 70th birthday on a cruise to Alaska. He took pride in having his pilot’s license. Bill was very active through out his lifetime. He completed the “Ride the River” 30-mile bike ride while in his 60s. He was known for being a jokester, but most of all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Reuter; three children, Pam (Mike) Reuter-Standard of Lodi, Wis., Scott (Laura) Reuter of Walnut and Nicole Reuter of Mendota; two brothers, George (Pat) Reuter of Ohio and Tom (Ann) Reuter of Sterling; one sister, Florence Hichborn of Bettendorf, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jessica (Mark) Standard, Katie (Mike) Melsheimer, Shannon (Trevin) Kennedy, Valerie Reuter and Zariah Reuter; and two great-grandchildren, Connor Melsheimer and Finnley Melsheimer.
William was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, at the Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon, followed by a service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ji Eun Mori O of the Red Oak United Methodist Church in Red Oak officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.
