Minooka District 111 names new high school principal

The Minooka High School District 111 Board named Bryan Zwemke as its new principal last week.

Zwemke will replace Ronald Kiesewetter, who resigned last month amid speculation that he voiced opposition to racist remarks allegedly made by a school board member earlier this year.

Kiesewetter's sudden resignation upset several students, parents and faculty members who came to a board meeting to express their concerns.

Zwemke has about 20 years of educational instruction and administrative leadership experience, according to a news release from the district.

He started his career as a teacher in Elgin School District U46 and most recently served as principal of Rotolo Middle School in Batavia School District 101.

“I am extremely excited for this opportunity and look forward to welcoming the students at the start of the new school year,” Zwemke said. “I have seen, and heard, a great sense of pride from everyone I’ve met during the last few weeks. Feeling that sense of community so quickly ensures my commitment to MCHS and my dedication to lead the students in becoming the best they can be.”

The board member who was accused of making the racist remark, Lori Lakota, resigned about a week after that meeting in May. She denied ever making the remark.

MCHS also announced the appointment of Deidra Crye to fill Lakota’s seat. Crye was seated as a board member at Wednesday’s meeting.
