Police: Morris man found with heroin, crack after traffic stop

SYCAMORE – A Morris man was released from jail on his signature Tuesday after being arrested in DeKalb on drug charges.

Zachary Weathersby, 19, of the
500 block of Shabbona Street, was in court Tuesday after being charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

If convicted of the most serious charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, he could face up to 15 years in prison.

According to court documents, Weathersby’s vehicle was pulled over by DeKalb police at 9:11 p.m. Monday in the 1400 block of Pleasant Street.

A K9 unit detected narcotics in the vehicle, and all of the passengers consented to a search. The search found nothing in the vehicle.

Police said Weathersby acted “nervous and furtive” and he and the passengers were brought back to the police station.

It was there, according to court documents, that the two other passengers said Weathersby had heroin and crack on him.

After an investigation, Weathersby was found to have a plastic bag containing 35 individual bags of heroin totalling less than half an ounce and a crack rock.

Judge Phillip Montgomery said that Weathersby had no prior criminal history and released him on his signature with pretrial supervision.

His next court appearance is
9 a.m. Aug. 23. He is being represented by the public defender.
