MINERAL — Marjorie M. “Marj” Hughes, 96, of Mineral passed away on Monday, July 1, 2019, at Aperion Care in Princeton, surrounded by her family.
Marjorie Marie DeDecker was born on Aug. 20, 1922, in rural Annawan, the daughter of George and Jessie (DeMaranville) DeDeceker. On Jan. 5, 1943, she married Albert L. “Bill” Hughes in Kahoka, Mo. He died Sept. 17, 1979.
She graduated from Annawan High School in 1940 and attended business college in Kewanee.
Marj was a lifelong member of Annawan Community United Methodist Church. She had been a longtime bus driver for Annawan Schools. She also served on the Annawan Cemetery Board.
Marj enjoyed playing cards, and leaves behind some special card playing friends. She was active in everything school- and village-related to Annawan.
Survivors include three daughters, Connie (Rev. Wayne) Anderson of Princeton, Billerae Twing of Hebron, Ind., and Margery (Jim) Wegrzyn of McNabb; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Edward DeDecker; five grandsons; and a great-grandson.
Cremation rites have been accorded and interment will be in the Annawan Cemetery at a later date.
