Police: Man killed, woman injured in Monee shooting

A man and a woman were shot inside a vehicle in Monee while they were visiting a friend, police said.

On Tuesday, Christopher A. Mitchell, 25, of Frankfort was shot and killed in the 25700 block of S. Sunrise Drive, according to the Will County Coroner’s Office.

Mitchell was inside the vehicle with a 23-year-old woman who was also injured in the shooting incident, Monee police said in a news release. She was taken to the University of Chicago hospital with serious injuries.

Monee police said the two victims may have been followed from Chicago to Monee where they were attacked. They were both in the village to visit a friend, according to police.

Officers were given a description of a man wearing a mask and armed with a gun, jumping into a vehicle and fleeing the scene of the shooting. Four people in the vehicle immediately fled the area, police said.
