Immaculate Conception School in Morris hosts graduation

The commencement ceremony for the Class of 2019, the 129th graduating class of Immaculate Conception School, was held during a 7 p.m. Liturgy on May 16.

Christopher Harris led his classmates, carrying a standard that was decorated in the school colors of blue and gold. Rev. Ed Howe was the celebrant at the Mass.

Luke Corsello presented the first reading, and Keira Kjellesvik read the second reading. The intercessions were read by Felicity Emmerich, Gretchen Zarbock, and Mason Kitchell

Gift bearers at the presentation were Lilyan Fleetwood, Cailey Danek, Nicholas Cook, and Dominic Awe.

Principal Kim DesLauriers presented the graduates to those present and Howe awarded them their diplomas. Chris Danek, member of the ICS School Board, and a graduate of ICS, assisted him.

American Legion Awards were presented to Finley Johnston and Benjamin Resar.DesLauriers presented American Citizenship Awards to Mason Kitchell, Keira Kjellesvik, Tessa Johnson and Gretchen Zarbock.

Recipients of the President’s Education Award were Luke Corsello, John Dodds, Felicity Emmerich, Christopher Harris, Justin Hemmersbach, Tessa Johnson, Finley Johnston, Mason Kitchell, Keira Kjellesvik, Benjamin Resar and Gretchen Zarbock.

These students were recognized for having maintained at least a 3.5 GPA and scoring in the 80th percentile on standardized tests their seventh and eighth grade years.

Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics certificates were presented to those with the highest math average in each of the three math groups. Keira Kjellesvik received it for the pre-algebra group, Finley Johnston for the algebra group, and Felicity Emmerich for geometry.

The President’s Physical Fitness Award was presented to Mason Kitchell and Benjamin Resar.

Certificates were presented to Nicholas Cook, Luke Corsello, Tessa Johnson, Keira Kjellesvik, Kelsey Nelson, Benjamin Resar, Ben Salzman, Megan Weinstock and Gretchen Zarbock for perfect attendance during their eighth grade year.

On behalf of the ICS school board, DesLauriers was presented with a plaque that dedicated the “Hallway of Excellence” in honor of his commitment to Catholic education for the past 39 years.

In his remarks, DesLauriers recognized the seven families of the class of 2019 who will no longer have a child attending Immaculate Conception School.

The cross bearer for the Mass was DesLauriers. Servers were Grace and Hope Emmerich. Ushers were Keagan Kjellesvik, Caden Nelson, Brady Harris, and Jonathan Zarbock. Cantor for the Mass was Jackie DesLauriers, an ICS alumnus.
