Joel Wayne Merriman

DIXON – Joel Wayne Merriman, 62, of Dixon, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital, Dixon. He worked for Dixon Correctional Center as a prison guard for many years, prior to his retirement.

Joel was born, May 25, 1957, in Dixon, IL, the son of Herman and Faye (Russell) Merriman. He enjoyed collecting antiques, was an avid fisherman who enjoyed boating, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his mother, Faye Merriman of Dixon; four brothers, Gary Merriman of Round Lake Park, IL, Michael (Janet) Merriman of Groveland, FL, James H. Merriman of Dixon, and John Merriman of Dixon; his nieces and nephew, Michelle Whitehead, Lisa Roberts, Justin (Megan) Merriman; and his great-nieces, Brianna Merriman, Elizabeth Merriman, Stephanie Whitehead, Lindsey Rae Roberts, and Alyssa Nicole Roberts.

Joel was preceded in death by his father, Herman W. Merriman; one nephew, Jeremiah Merriman; and his sister-in-law, Susan Merriman.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Oakwood Cemetery, Dixon, IL, with the Rev. Luke Schier, pastor of Open Bible Church, Polo, officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.

A memorial has been established.
