STERLING – Richard “Richie” “Dodson” D. Schryver, age 89, of Sterling, died Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at his home.
Richard was born on March 30, 1930 in Milledgeville, the son of Walter and Ethel (Walters) Schryver. He was a United States Navy veteran and served in the Korean War. He married Marilyn Nelson on April 11, 1953 in Sterling. They were married nearly 60 years before she passed on July 3, 2012. Richard was employed by Illinois Bell for 40 years and retired in 1992. He was a member of the Sterling American Legion Post 296 for 60 years. Richard was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, arrowhead hunting, long walks on the beach looking for shark teeth, and participating in Civil War reenactments.
Survivors include his daughters, Ginger (Robert) White of Sterling, Jody Snyder of Rock Falls, Jamie (Ronald) Moffitt of Sterling; one son, Cory (Terri) Schryver of Sterling; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mae Ivy, Delores Hamilton, Lois Hughes, and Deanna DeGeorge; and five brothers, Russell Schryver, Lyle Schryver, Bill Schryver, Herbie Schryver, and Marion Schryver.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one grandson; and two brothers, John and Bob Schryver.
Cremation rites have been accorded with the McDonald Funeral Home and Crematory in Rock Falls.
