Carpentersville police arrested a man who allegedly fled from a suspected stolen vehicle Wednesday afternoon, the police chief said.

Chief Michael Kilbourne said officers about 1 p.m. observed two men in a “suspicious vehicle” near the Fox View Apartment Complex. Officers ran the license plate number and discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen, he said.

When officers approached the vehicle, one of the suspects ran into the wooded area nearby. Kilbourne said one of the officers saw what appeared to be a gun in the man’s waistband as he ran away.

Police established a perimeter around the wooded area and “flushed” the suspect out, according to the alert. The man exited the woods at Amarillo Drive and Toro Circle and was arrested. Charges are pending, Kilbourne said.

Kilbourne said he wouldn’t identify the man until charges are officially filed.
