Romeoville village board approves land purchase for park, open space

The Romeoville Village Board approved a plan to purchase two parcels of land along Route 53 adjacent to Abbeywood Drive and Pine Trail Drive on the village's east side for a future park and open space.

A vacant home, to be demolished within the next month, currently sits on the 3.8 acres of land, according to a news release.

"This is a great opportunity to expand our open space for this part of the community," Mayor John Noak said.

The board also approved the purchase of playground equipment for the 51-acre Discovery Park, located at 300 S. HighPoint Dr. A playground will be added to the new park, which already features soccer fields, basketball courts, sand volleyball courts and bean bag areas. Discovery Park is open. A ceremonial ribbon cutting will be held at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 10.
