Ronald E. Smith

ROCK FALLS – Ronald E. Smith, age 83, of Rock Falls died Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Ronald was born January 16, 1936 in Sterling, the son of Harold and Myrtle (Signor) Smith. He served in the US Army and later married Dianne Curry on February 11, 1961 in Prophetstown. She preceded him in death on November 22, 2005. He was employed at Lawrence Brothers as a tool and die maker for 25 years retiring in 2002. Ronald was a 30 year member of AA, played in bands for many years, and enjoyed woodworking and cars.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff Smith of Sterling and Ken (Peggy) Smith of Appleton, Wis.; one sister, Sue Covell of Sterling; his significant other, Doris Williamson of Sterling; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and one stepbrother, Steve Knaple.

Visitation will be Friday, July 26, 2019 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. The funeral service will be Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Jeff Coester, of The Big Red Church in Sterling, officiating. Burial will be at Coloma Township Cemetery in Rock Falls. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
