DeKalb School District 428 Board will welcome 3rd resource officer Tuesday

DeKALB – The DeKalb School District 428 Board will welcome Allison Remnes on Tuesday as the district’s third school resource officer.

According to district documents, Superintendent Jamie Craven will introduce Remnes, whose position was unanimously approved June 18 and which will cost the district $124,360, according to the board's agenda.

Board member Jeromy Olson has previously said the district should diversify the SROs.

District 428 has had two resource officers, one for DeKalb High School, officer Aaron Lockhart, and one who moves between Huntley Middle School and Clinton Rosette Middle School, officer Chris Sullivan. Craven has said the third officer would be able to assist and be on hand at the elementary schools.

Through documents obtained via the Freedom of Information Act, former DeKalb Police Chief Gene Lowery said he would recommend the district follow past practices to identify interested officers within the police department, have them submit their qualifications and participate in an interview process that would include district officials.

School lunch prices could increase

The board also will discuss a potential 10-cent increase in the price of school lunches, which would bring the cost to $2.80 at elementary schools and $2.95 at middle and high schools this school year.

The last increase was also 10 cents in the 2017-18 school year.
