Double the Triple: Restaurant opening second location

DIXON – In 4 years, Shane Porter has gone from serving barbecue from a food truck to running two local restaurants.

Porter, owner of the Triple P BBQ restaurant and truck of the same name in Rock Falls, will soon open his second location, this one in Dixon – and fittingly enough it’ll be at the site of another triple P: Presidential Parkway Plaza, at 1600 Miller St., near Walmart.

He’s shooting for a September or October opening.

The new restaurant will give the plaza’s east wing a full set of stores.

Xsite Real Estate of suburban Burr Ridge, which owns the plaza, approached him, Porter said.

“I’ve always thought Dixon has a different market. People in Dixon tend to stay in Dixon.”

With seating for 50 or 60, the new location will be smaller than the one at 3312 W. Rock Falls Road/U.S. Route 30.

Only barbecue will be sold, and customers can watch cooks cut up the meat at the service counter.

“It’s pretty simple and fast, so I think people will enjoy it during their lunch hour,” Porter said.

“Pulled Pork Porter,” as Shane’s known, is originally from Polo and spent years crafting his barbecue and competing in local cook-offs. He bought the food truck and ran it for 2 years, then moved into the former Tin Roof Tavern near Galt in February 2017.

He and his wife, Kayla, moved again soon after, leasing the former Long Shot Bar and Grill in Rock Falls from local restaurateur Matt Prescott that October.

The Rock Falls location has a full-service bar with regional beers on tap, as well as an event space for local music concerts. Barbecue and brisket platters, smoked macaroni and cheese, burgers and flatbreads, wings, and combo platters are on the menu.
