A proposal to set up a multisport training facility at the 10600 block of Wolf Drive in Huntley was recommended without opposition to the village board during Monday's plan commission meeting.
The 7,500-square-foot gym space would be a year-round facility and offer various memberships for individuals and families, village staff said.
The petitioners, Valerie and Shawn Jackson of Huntley, were in attendance for Monday's meeting and said they would like it to be up and running as soon as possible. Shawn said he hopes it will be open when the wrestling season starts in October.
Commissioner Robert Chandler said that when he was younger, assets like this weren't available for youth sports, and he thought the proposal was great.
Plan commission chairman Tom Kibort said that for the facility to be able to serve many sports is outstanding.
The facility will occupy the former home of Mighty Moon Bounce, which closed its doors June 1.
"From the moment we started this journey, our family, friends and the community have been nothing but supportive, and we are grateful for every one of you," Mighty Moon Bounce's owners said in a statement. "Our goal was to provide a fun, affordable, clean and safe environment for your families to enjoy."
