Dr. Darroll Erickson

STERLING – Dr. Darroll Erickson, longtime resident of Sterling, died in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Wednesday, August 21, 2019.

“Doc” Erickson was born April 22, 1931, in Climax, Minnesota to Reuben and Adeline (Nelson) Erickson.

He graduated from Billings, Montana, High School, University of Minnesota Medical School, and U.S. Army Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he completed his residency in pediatrics.

Dr. Erickson served in the U.S. Army at 20th Station Hospital in Nuremburg, Germany; Washington, D.C.; and Fort Carson, Colorado. In 1964 he became a partner at the Sterling-Rock Falls Clinic, where he remained until he retired in 1994.

Dr. Erickson was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He served on the Unit 5 School Board, Sauk Valley College Board and numerous others. Dr. Erickson was a lifelong pianist and loved to sing. He also enjoyed golf, tennis, and watching sports of any kind.

Darroll was preceded in his passing by his parents, Adeline and Reuben; his brother, Duane; and sister, Dorothy Hook.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jeannette; daughters, Kristin (Dan) Johnson and Karen (Padraic) Shinville; and sons, Brian (Arlene) Erickson and Bruce (Julie) Erickson; as well as seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He also survives in the hearts and memories of all the patients and their families he so lovingly served, as well as the staff of the Sterling-Rock Falls Clinic and Community General Hospital.
