The Joliet Junior College Full-time Faculty Union has awarded $8,900 in scholarships to assist local students.
Gifts as high as $750 were awarded to 16 students who are either preparing to take classes at JJC or transferring to a four-year school. Applicants submitted a short essay about their future plans.
The union has been awarding scholarships annually since 1996. This year’s recipients included the following:

Jacob Hulbert of Morris: $400
Jamie Kaiser of Lisle: $400
Mandy Kaiser of Lisle: $400
Rebecca Keller of Homer Glen: $750
David Lozano of Joliet: $750
Angelina McNulty of New Lenox: $750
Jenna Morgan of Minooka: $400
Nicole Murphy of Frankfort: $750
Charles Muszynski of Naperville: $200
Kendra Neill of Joliet: $750
Nicole Nelson of New Lenox: $750
Taylor Nelson of Frankfort: $200
Jordan Scholtes of Braidwood: $200
Taylor Nelson also received an additional $500 for the Pete Neff Memorial Scholarship, which the union awards to a JJC Honors Program student.
Neff, who was very involved in the union, founded the program during his more than 30 years as a JJC English professor. Half of the funding for this scholarship was provided by Neff's widow, Patricia Neff.
