ALBANY – Kenneth J. Miller, 88, of Albany, died at home on Thursday, September 5, 2019.
His funeral service will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Eckberg, Associate Pastor of Erie Evangelical Free Church officiating. Visitation will precede the funeral, from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.
Cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral service.
A private family graveside service and interment will be held at a later date at the Fulton Township Cemetery.
Memorials to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Unity Christian School have been established.
Ken was born May 27, 1931, in Clinton, Iowa, to Charles E. and Christine M. (Bielema) Miller. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and was a 1949 graduate of Fulton High School. On November 23, 1950, he married Phyllis J. Maring in Fulton. She died September 24, 2014.
Ken farmed in the rural Albany area his entire life. He was a member of the Erie Evangelical Free Church in Erie, and served as an elder and deacon. He also served on the Riverbend School Board. Ken was a caring man and was known for reaching out to others in need. He enjoyed fishing and bowling, visiting friends, and making new friends at the nursing home. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with family.
Survivors include two daughters, Beth Ann Wickes of Albany, Gaye Lynn Bennett of New Glarius, WI; two grandchildren, Ryan Bennett and Adam Wickes; one sister, Shirley (Vern) Boelkens of Chicago; one brother, Charles E. (Pat) Miller of Fulton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Phyllis Boonstra.
