Marian Ackerman

PRINCETON — Marian Elaine Ackerman, 100, of Princeton died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, at Heritage Health in Walnut.

She was born Aug. 3, 1919, in Manlius Township, the daughter of Nels Peter and Marianne (Madsen) Christensen. Marian married Merle Marine in July of 1941. On May 31, 1962, she married Everett Ackerman at First Lutheran Church in Ohio, Ill.

She graduated from Manlius High School with the Class of 1937 and from Northern Illinois University. She taught school for 25 years in Bureau County. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at her church and in the Princeton community, including the Owen Lovejoy Homestead and Perry Memorial Hospital.

Marian was an avid reader, and she enjoyed walking, flower gardening, oil painting, quilting and her family. She was a devoted Christian who enjoyed Bible studies and was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Prince­ton.

She is survived by two sons, Konrad Merle (Kay) Marine of Wayzata, Minn., and Karl Kirby (Judy) Marine of Coal Valley; one daughter, Laurel Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one stepson, Paul Arthur (Judy) Ackerman of Middleton, Del.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a special nephew, Lyle (Barbara) Schrader of Walnut.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Nels, Adolph and Delbert Christensen; and two sisters, Ethel Schrader and Thyra Smith.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Princeton.

Services will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery in Ohio, Ill.

Memorials may be directed to the Evangelical Covenant Church or Union Cemetery.
