Female Most Valuable Athlete: Devynn Day

Name: Devynn Day

School: Geneva, junior

Sport: Volleyball

Why she was selected: Day had 13 kills and eight digs in a win over Wheaton Warrenville South, and nine kills, four digs and an ace in a win over Rosary. On Sept. 16, Day had eight kills in a win over St. Charles North.

Chronicle sports reporter Jacob Bartelson caught up with Day to discuss her volleyball career and more.

Bartelson: What is your earliest volleyball memory?

Day: I started playing volleyball in seventh grade on 13-Silver at [Club] Fusion. My earliest memory [is] probably [attending] Nationals [that season]. We had a lot of fun. We went to Disney.

Bartelson: Why is volleyball so important to you?

Day: I love the game. I love playing volleyball. I do it most of my time. It's just something that's come into my life and it's really important to me.

Bartelson: What's it like playing with this group of Geneva teammates?

Day: I love this group of girls. I play club with a few of them: [Grace Hinchman, Anna Loberg, Cassidy Brown and Mary Cate McCormick]. I play more than just school with them. It's fun that we get a full year with them.

Bartelson: What's unique about your warmup before a game?

Day: I like having Portillos: chicken tenders, fries and a Sprite. [Plus] some fun music to listen to with the team.

Bartelson: Geneva lost to St. Charles North in the Class 4A regional finals last year. What's it like to get a bit of revenge?

Day: This is my first time beating North. Freshman year, we had a close game. I was on JV. ... To finally come back and beat them after four times feels good.
