Sarvis ran for 154 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns in a 31-30 Rockets win over Jacobs on Saturday.

Name: Gavin Sarvis

School: Burlington Central, sophomore

Sport: Football

Why he was selected: Sarvis ran for 154 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns in a 31-30 win over Jacobs on Sept. 28. Through five games, Sarvis has 548 yards and seven touchdowns and averages 6.2 yards per carry. Chronicle sports reporter Jacob Bartelson caught up with Sarvis to discuss his big game and more. Below is an edited transcript.

Bartelson: When you go back and watch film from last week's game, what was the one thing that really stuck out about your performance?

Sarvis: I feel like I put it all out there. I really tried my hardest [and] played as much as I could. [I] tried to motivate my teammates and we played well together.

Bartelson: When you look at the season as a whole, where do you feel like you're at as a team?

Sarvis: When we work together really hard, we can do anything; we can beat any team. But when one person isn't doing what they're supposed to do, we fall apart. And that's what's makes us fall [short] from [a] winning record.

Bartelson: We probably talked about this on the podcast a few weeks ago, but why did you choose football?

Sarvis: Like I said last time, I played it since I was little. [Probably] 5 years old and it's just stuck with me. It's fun. I enjoy it.

Bartelson: What athlete, college, NFL or whatever, do you really look up to and why?

Sarvis: It's not one specific person, but let's say Dennis Rodman. He [wasn't] the best, but he tried hard. That's what [made] him so good, his effort.

Bartelson: How would you describe your personality outside of football?

Sarvis: I guess you can say I'm outgoing. I can be the comical person. I'm friendly, I'm nice to everyone [and] I try to get everyone involved with everything and just have fun.
