Police: Woman's friend handcuffs her at Rockdale bar, then both arrested

A woman was handcuffed and placed inside her own car by a friend outside a Rockdale bar when she was “acting crazy and irate,” police said.

When a Troy Fire Protection District paramedic and a Rockdale police sergeant tried to tend to the woman, she kicked them both, police said.

Amalie J. Wessling, 22, was charged with kicking a paramedic and police sergeant June 30 after they responded to the incident at RJ’s Place, 201 Moen Ave., Rockdale Police Chief Robert Dykstra said.

Wessling wasn’t apprehended until Monday, when Will County Sheriff’s deputies arrested her on a warrant.

Deron A. Schillinger, 27, of Joliet, was arrested for handcuffing Wessling and putting her in her own car against her will, Dykstra said. However, the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office didn’t file charges against Schillinger. State’s attorney’s office spokeswoman Carole Cheney was unable to provide further information Tuesday.

Dykstra said officers responded to RJ’s Place about 8:10 a.m. June 30 after receiving a report of a woman who was “out of control.”

When the officers arrived, they found she was in the back of her own car, handcuffed and kicking at the doors and windows, he said.

Dykstra said Schillinger placed Wessling in handcuffs after she went into the bar’s bathroom and returned “acting crazy and irate.”

Dykstra said Schillinger told officers he had handcuffs because he works as a security guard for Anthony’s Restaurant and Pub, 3151 Voyager Lane, Joliet.

Anthony’s owner Anthony Hohlastos did not respond to calls and a message Tuesday.
