Local Roundup: Sterling golf sends two to sectional; EP golfer moving on

Averi Heintzelman shot an 89 to claim 11th overall at the Class 2A Normal Regional and move on to the O’Fallon Sectional. Olivia Schwingle shot a 95 and is also moving on.

Sterling took fifth as a team with a 401 at Ironwood Golf Course. Normal won the team title with a 323. Amanda Gravelle of Normal was the medalist with a 77.

The Golden Warriors also got counting scores from Madelyn Pink (103) and Grace Sandrock (114).

Class 1A Geneseo Regional: Erie-Prophetstown’s Samantha Soleta shot a 96 to qualify for the sectional.

The Panthers shot 455 as a team to claim seventh place. Bureau Valley shot a 479 and finished eighth.

Geneseo won the team title with a 360 and the Leafs’ Elizabeth Roodhouse was the medalist, shooting an 84.

Elisabeth Sullivan had the low score for the Storm, shooting a 111. Regan Cook added a 120.

Berkley Eggers added a 115 for Erie-Prophetstown. Malory Eggers shot a 119.

Swimming

Sterling 96, DeKalb/Sycamore 70: Lauren Moeller won a pair of individual races and was part of a winning relay as the Water Warriors topped DeKalb/Sycamore.

Moeller won the 50 freestyle in 26.18 seconds, the backstroke in 1:03.35 and teamed up with Aviva Brenner, Megan Christensen and Rebecca Riley to win the 400 freestyle relay in 4:10.17.

Christensen won the 100 freestyle in 1:00.33.

Boys soccer

United Township 1, Dixon 0: The Dukes were blanked by the Panthers at A.C. Bowers Field to wrap up the regular season with a 13-5-2 mark.

DeKalb 6, Sterling 1: Adrian Herrera had the lone goal for the Golden Warriors (9-11-2) in a road loss to the Barbs.
